If the people who hold your mortgage say so, yes.

Hello,
It would depend on where you are at in Altamonte springs and what subdivision you are looking to purchase in! Altamonte springs generally isn't in a flood zone, but some place of Altmannetrings have some flooding areas. I used to live in Kissimmee,Florida where flood zones had varied according to subdivision and area where the subject property is located.

I would check on whether you are in a flood zone or not.

I live in what is considered "flood zone X" which is considered low risk of a flood, but I still buy flood insurance. Why? Because of storm water runoff and stupid things that can happen due to ineptitude on the part of the public works departments, not because I think some body of water is going to rise high enough to flood my house.

The cost is minimal -- I pay $317/year for $250k house and $100k contents (the most you can buy under the federal program).

After watching the aftermath of Katrina I decided it was definitely worth it, even though my house is 25 feet above sea level and built to the new FL building codes. I live in Panama City Beach, FL.

Most of FL is a 100 year flood plain.

Talk to your insurance agent, who can tell you how much risk your personal ADDRESS has.

If you have a mortgage, then the mortgage company will tell you. If you don't have a mortgage, consider that even areas outside the flood plain get flooded - and if you have no insurance, you lose EVERYTHING.

If you are in or near a flood zone absolutely. It's not just high risk areas that are flooded. Between 20 and 25 percent of flood insurance claims come from a medium or low flood-risk areas. There is a good article on flood insurance at yourpropertypath.com ( see insurance section....ez to find) and use the top article to get competitive pricing in minutes at no cost to you. Having up to four agents bid for your business is always good for you.
