Default How do I get health insurance (not online)?

I've been without health insurance for three months because I have to wait days/weeks for my on line applications to turn me down. How did people get health insurance before the Internet? Is there some place I go where I can talk to an insurance agent or something? I want to discuss my situation with a human being so instead of being turned down, they give me a counter-offer or something.

Yes. Go see a local insurance broker that handles individual health plans. They can give you options and costs.

Open your phone book (or go to WNW.yp.com = yellow pages) and look up insurance brokers. You will find one that will be able to help you.

A better option is to ask friends, neighbors, your accountant, etc for a referral to an insurance agent / broker

Or look at the website for your local Chamber of Commerce, they probably have members that are insurance agents / brokers.

Contact your auto and/or home insurance agent. Sometimes they'll also do health, or they can refer you to a colleague that does health. Otherwise, search the phone book or go ogle for independent health insurance agent. You'll need someone who knows all of the plans available and can work with you to see which companies may accept you and on what terms.

I'm an Aflac insurance agent. You should contact your local Aflac office and ask them to send someone to your home. We do it all the time. You will know what you have before they leave. We offer: sickness policies, hospital policies, accident policies, ICU policies...more than 10 customizable policies. We are not major medical insurance. Major medical insurance does a great job in paying doctor and hospital bills, we pay cash benefits directly to the policy holders. Why do you need this type of insurance? In 2008 more than 50% of bankruptcies were influenced by medical bills and more than 70% of them had major medical insurance. The problem was not major medical but the insured did not consider the out of pocket expenses (averaging more than $30,000 per incident) that was connected to being sick or hurt and out of work. So please contact Aflac to learn more about how we protect families and individuals from the rising cost of sickness and injury. You will be amazed at how far a few dollars a month can go with Aflac.

~~Find an agent in your area who carries a few different health insurance companies. They can help guide you to the best policy for you, and it costs you nothing to use their services.~~

You can call any independent insurance agent who has an office near you and see what health policies are available and what plans would work for you. I would never buy anything on line without discussing it with someone first in person. I dint know why anyone would buy on line. You can call some major insurers in your state and they can mail you brochures to read if you prefer.

First of all, you call the company on line and explain it to them over the phone. That's what we do here all day long and whether we see you face to face or talk you through it over the phone it's the same result.

I think the problem is that you're going through some large on line company that provides you with no service or feedback. MOST good brokers, who sell at the same exact price as that large, on line only one, can tell you what to expect before you apply.

Just search "(your state) health insurance broker" in a good search engine and you'll find help.

People can STILL get health insurance in person, at a local agent's office. You can find a local agent in your yellow pages, or at WNW.iiaba.net using the agent locate button.

Keep in mind, depending on your "situation" and which state you are in, it's possible that you will not be ABLE to buy health insurance. As an example, once you're pregnant, it's too late to buy private health insurance.

But the local agent will be able to explain everything to you, and give you state specific options.
