Default Do I have to notify my health insurance?

I'm under my parents' health insurance as a part time student. I am currently taking 3 classes, but I want to drop one of them without my parents knowing. If I do this and go down to only 2 classes, must the insurance company know? Do they have any way of finding out? Does it matter how many classes I take while being considered part time?

I would call the insurance company and ask before you drop the class.

~~No you do not need to notify the insurance company. Last September part of the new health reform took effect and you no longer need to be a student to stay on parents health plans. You can stay on it with their permission until you are age 26 or employed by a business who offers group insurance.

If your parents are covered under an employers health insurance, you no longer need to be a student to be covered (like the other person said).

If your parents have a individual policy (not from an employer), you should call the insurance company to confirm their policy. I don't think they need to adhere to the new health care reform law. If you need to remain a student, you would usually need to be a full time student. How many credits would be full time depends on your school.
