I rent and someone came by with camera and said they were from an insurance agency and needed to take photos of the home. This doesn't sound right. Is landlord trying to sell the home? Anyone have any idea?

Yes. Insurance agents do take photos of the home they are insuring.

The land lord would have an insurance policy on the structure. You would need to have a renters policy on your contents.

Yes. Every time the landlord switches insurance to a new company, someone will be coming out to take pictures.

It may happen that they came by you to check the status of the home , The insurance company keep track of such property on which the people try to take insurance on that thing. Or it may be owner trick to sell it on good price for showing the client some pictures.
