All home insurance policies will cover accidental damage for either buildings and/or contents if you specify it.
As for breakdown of appliances, no this is not covered under any domestic policies, in this way it is similar to car insurance. If your car breaks down you can't claim on your insurance, you call the AA or your warranty people.
There are Home Emergency products out there that will cover the basics such as your heating and water systems, so if your boiler breaks down you can call someone.
This type of cover may appear in future, as a few commercial office policies now include equipment breakdown, but whether that will migrate across to personal policies is Antone's guess.
