its needed because if you hit someone else and its your fault, your insurance will pay for their damage.so if you didnt have insurance, you might not be able to pay for the damage you caused.

In the U.S. you need auto insurance for the PLPD part of the insurance. The police and state don't care about the collision and repair insurance. Most states (if not all) only require plpd. PLPD= Personal Liablity/Personal Damage. You need this because it covers you if you cause injury, harm or damage to another person or their property.

You need to have proof of liability insurance so if YOU wreck someone else's car YOU can pay for it..

Some state and local laws require your vehicle to be insured, at least if you're at fault in an accident. This is to prevent people that cause accidents getting out of their responsibility to the other vehicle they damaged, placing the financial burden on the victim. The vehicle record that the police officer checks with dispatch should say whether or not the vehicle is insured, but the law requires a current, paper document in the vehicle as the computerized records may not be up-to-the-day current.

Ah, the purpose for insurance is to protect the people YOU might crash into - not the other way around, that is why it isn't your wish to have insurance.Police ask for the paper because many states enforce requirements to carry insurance. The police ask for the proof of insurance because they don't have a way to check it any other way.Sooo - be a responsible citizen and get insurance!

If you own you vehicle free and clear of the bank..you have to have liability insurance to cover damage you might do to someone else.It is generally cheap. If you owe money to the bank for your car and the bank has your title, then the bank will require full insurance to protect their collateral ..your car.The reason why is simple..before those laws were in effect, folks without insurance would ram someones car..hurting the driver and destroying their transportation then show up in court saying.I am broke so too bad about your medical bills and your car...sue me all you want, I have not money to collect. That is why most states (if not all) require at least liability insurance...to protect the other drivers from irresponsible drivers.

It is needed because you are required to have insurance. You need the document to prove to me that you have insurance. No document=Citation and a mandatory court date.

The Law requires you to have Insurance. If you do not have Insurance - take the Bus.
